‘Shanty Town’ Plot
The Nigerian crime thriller tells the tale of three hustlers (played by Ini Edo, Nancy Isime, and Nse Ikpe-Etim) from Lagos who team up to take on the deadliest and most brutal crime syndicate in the region. Directed by Dimeji Ajibola, A gang of prostitutes tries to flee the clutches of a dangerous kingpin, but due to rampant corruption and bloodlines escape is an almost unattainable aim for them. Chichi Nworah made a statement about the film that “Shanty Town” is unique to viewers since it is both unfamiliar and different at the same time. The story of redemption will particularly hit home with viewers who are accustomed to Lagos’ tenacity and hustler culture, as well as that of other lively cities around the globe. The trailer starts with the threat that betrayals will face consequence, whether throughout the film or in reality -that is for you to interpret. Inside “Shanty Town,” all you will hear is the voice of the downtrodden, revenge, and vengeance. One of the female leads has been given to Scar (Chidi Mokeme) to pay her father’s debt. ‘Shanty Town’ Cast
Written by Xavier Ighorodje and Donald Tombia, “Shanty Town” is a Nigerian limited series directed by Dimeji Ajibola. Dimeji, the CEO of Flipsyde Studios Ltd., is a dynamic entrepreneur with expertise in filmmaking, animation, visual effects, media, and music. He carries a perfect mixture of both traditional and contemporary art. The show has been produced by none other than Chinenye Nworah (popularly known as Chichi), with Jonathan Kovel as the cinematographer. The talented filmmaker based in Lagos, Nigeria, is the founder of Giant Creative Media and has contributed to a few TV series like “Jacob’s Mansion,” “So in Love,” “Line and Sinker,” and “Hook.” The crime thriller has a star-studded cast, including Ini Edo, Richard Mofe–Damijo, Nse Ikpe–Etim, Chidi Mokeme, Shola Shobowale, Uche Jombo, Ali Nuhu, and Shaffy Bello. Chidi Mokeme, the main protagonist, will play the role of Scar. He is well known for his debuts in “Abuja Connection” (2003), “76” (2016), and “Agony of a Mother” (2002). In addition, he is well known for serving as the host of the reality program Gulder Ultimate Search Talent Hunt Show.
The Nollywood film industry is incomplete if we don’t mention Ini Edo, who has worked on projects like “Men Do Cry,” “Red Light,” “Last Picnic,” “Citation” (2020), “One God One Nation,” “Fatal Seduction,” “While You Slept,” and so many others. The other members of the ensemble are Zubby Michael, Mercy Eke, Yaw Naija, Omowunmi Dada, Nancy Isime, Shola Sobowale, Judith Audu, Regina Daniels, and Peter Okoye of P-Square fame (music duo). Production on “Shanty Town” began in May 2021; its principal photography was concluded last year, and it is credited to an award-winning cinematographer John Demps. While reveling in the debut of the limited series, available on Netflix as an original series, Dimeji Ajibola (Ratnik) professed delight and congratulated all those engaged in its creation. The show has been filmed by the following production houses: Giant Creative Media, Bossteewo Studio, Minini Empire Production, and Champion One Entertainment.
The highly anticipated show called “Shanty Town” is set to premiere globally on Netflix on January 20, 2023. This project, which was once planned to be a full-length film, is now a six-part television series. Netflix claims to have spent N9 billion between 2016 and 2022 acquiring films for its streaming collection. Season 1 of “Shanty Town” potentially will be the streamer’s first brand-new release of 2023, with English subtitles.
